One morning, pharmacies across the United States simply stopped working.

Not in one city. Not one chain. Everywhere at once. The prescription you needed could not be billed. The system that had quietly approved your medication your whole life returned an error and went dark.

The cause was a single computer most Americans had never heard of, belonging to a company most Americans had never heard of — a company that sits underneath one out of every three patient records in the country.
